Take a breath of 89.9% luxury

A short Q&A with Panatom

What was the idea for the architectural setting for the exhibition of M Publication?

The overall idea was to do less. Not because "less is more", as the architect Mies van der Rohe put it, but because less is better, in most cases. Less decoration, less distraction, less superflous stuff. We tried to focus on the main thing. In this case, the focus was primarily on M Publication.

We established one main area where people would meet and read M Publication and two secondary areas, one being the outside yard where Gotan Project's movie was shown and snow was falling. The other one consisted the closed room, displaying 200 copies of M, which would be "released" later to the public.

The activity in the outside yard was rather subtle and would only be seen on second sight. The spatial arrangment and the light settings were meant to keep the focus on M Publication.

As you have described, you made the snow fall in November earlier than expected ...

Just as all good ideas, it was a joke in the beginning. We tried to bend nature. Our first thought was to flood the yard to make it a real aquarium, which it seemed to be already due to the glass surrounding it. Making it snow in November was a little easier than flooding the garden, but still this act showed enough decadence. Another reason for us to go for the snow effect - white is the color of the current volume of M Publlication.

Decadence - Luxury, what is it for you?

True luxury is to do what you can't afford or what what is actually impossible. A great part of luxury is decadence. Freedom to do whatever you want to. Luxury is less.
